DAP Tourney: SHOOTING STARS ZOOM INTO SEMIFINAL
Defending champions Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, booked their place in the semi final of the second edition of the Dapo Abiodun pre season tournament after squeezing Bendel Insurance of Benin 2-1.
The quarter final duel, played inside the mainbowl of the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, saw the Oluyole Warriors score a goal in each half to cage the hard tackling Benin Arsenal.
At the start of the game, Insurance showed their readiness to dim the Stars, as they took the game to the defending champion.
The Omololu Waheed led 3SC responded quickly, settled down and thereafter took over procceedings.
It was a matter of time before the breakthrough will come as right back, Lanre Ferinyaro' s 23rd minute canon shot sailed into the net to put the stars ahead.
With more efforts to increase the tally not materializing, the Ibadan soccer lords held on, tto end the first half 1-0.
The second half was very competitive as 3SC surge forward in search of another goal while Insurance defended stoutly, looking for ocassional breakthrough to shock the Stars.
Substitute, Awujoola Sadiq, headed home in the 67th minute to double the Oluyole Warriors' lead.
That was his second goal in the tourney as he also came from the bench to grab a late equalizer for the team in their group C game against Remo Stars.
Sarki Ismail pulled one back for Insurance and his 72nd minute goal ensured a tough and tension soaked match as the Benin based side pressed for the leveler while Shooting Stars fought bravely to hold onto the slim lead while searching for another goal.
None of the two sides could add to the tally till the referee blew the final whistle.
3SC await the winner of the tie between Rivers United and MFM for the semi final tie on Sunday.
