*Ibadan Bubbles as Sports Writers, OAPs Tango in Oyo SWAN Table Tennis Contest*Africa's largest city in South of the Sahara, Ibadan will be the centre of attraction for sports fans as it plays host to an unprecedented show of table tennis skills by Sports Journalists and On Air Personalities in first ever table tennis competition for such celebrities.
The table tennis competition tagged Olusoji/SWAN Table Tennis Tournament is being organised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) Oyo State Chapter, with the Chairman of Oyo State Table Tennis Association Mr Tayo Adesoji sponsoring it.
Twenty eight sports journalists and OAPs are competing in the table tennis tournament which starts today, Friday 18th of September at the NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku Ibadan.
Some of the contestants, representing various media outfits in Oyo State, in the unprecedented table tennis contest are already engaging each other in war of words.
One of the contestants, Samson Akindele of Fresh FM, who is taking on Oyo SWAN Chairman Niyi Alebiosu of Tribune Newspapers in the opening game of the tournament, vowed to humble his opponent.
"I have been training day and night for this contest. And I will make a mincemeat of Alebiosu. I won't consider his position as SWAN Chairman", Akindele boasted.
Responding to Samson Akindele's brag, Niyi Alebiosu promised to teach his opponent lesson.
"I heard Samson is boasting, I won't join him in bragging because I know it's an empty barrel that makes the loudest noise. I will show him the stuff I am made of when we meet", Alebiosu said.
Similarly, two OAPs, Femi Oyeboade and Ismail Agboola of Noble FM said they are battle ready to make a mess of their opponents.
Also, Temitope Yusuf of BCOS promised to beat his opponent from 32 FM Paul Alasiri mercilessly, while Haphiz Muhammed Cantona vowed to roast and devour fellow FRCN colleague Sola Ayegbajeje.
The Sponsor of the competition Dr Tayo Adesoji disclosed that he is bankrolling the tournament to promote ping pong game among journalists in Oyo state.
"We're organising this table tennis tournament to allow sports journalists showcase their talents in the ping pong game", Dr Adesoji said.
The Sponsor added that he is looking forward to a fun filled and interesting competition.
The Table Tennis Tournament will end on Saturday 19th of September 2020, with the Champion as well as the runner up and third place competitors going home with fabulous prizes.
